John Deaderick has a rapidly expanding home studio and an enthusiastic spirit for recording and we had worked on demos in the past, so we began three songs in the summer of 07. I became so pleased with what we were accomplishing I decided to package it and release another work independently with two songs from the "Better" sessions that I had previously felt undecided on, Notion and Fisherman. They seemed to make sense in the company of the songs from the Deaderick sessions. And lastly, Will and I got together for two writing sessions to complete a song I had been humming for awhile and was sort of stuck on, "Oh, America." The song became something completely different in the second writing session, and we sort of raced to his laptop to not forget his idea. Little did we know, he was establishing the engineering of the sixth track of my EP. I'm so pleased with the mix especially. David Henry sort of sutured the whole thing up for us.

And that's the story of Fireworks.

FIREWORKS
Amy Loftus

cheers he’s got a toast for me
someone’s brother in law i’m bored as can be
yes i’ve read the books you love
yes the story of your baseball glove
i’m reminded why i barely date
i lie and say it’s getting late
and pray that i’ll be normal soon
and able to forget the moon

i want fireworks fourth of july when you baby are by my side
i want love that stays up in the air not just when the weather’s fair
i want fireworks

yes i’m from chicago
you don’t say, a city you know
coincidence? okay your call
yes it’s pretty in the fall
he’s tryin hard to pop my hood
all i can think is you wish you could
i’d rather be playing guitar
or running off to somewhere far

someone says with a frown

girl, fireworks just fall down

i say i'm an optimist

who's been properly kissed

CAVALIER

Amy Loftus

it’s like stuffing a cloud into a mason jar a butterfly net to catch a star
flying a plane to somewhere in a car tell me how am i doin so far
pretending not to want you
i’m wearing a suit of armor around you it’s tempting to start playing clue
i’d look at your eyes but you’d see what’s true tell me how am i being
called to
pretending not to want you

i’m doing my best cavalier while i open my arms and stand right here
i’m doin my finest nonchalant while i swallow it down down down
you’re the one i want

couple of others have been comin around but they don’t make me laugh
make me feel found
and you still pass through me without a sound tell me how have i become
bound to
pretending not to want you

oh excuse me that’s just my love for you
leaking out oh sorry it’s on your shoe
it’s just this is kind of hard to do
pretending not to want you

NOTION
Amy Loftus

it’s that mischevious grin superman chin
and the feeling i’d follow you anywhere
but you’re doin just fine and i don’t wait in line
behind ladies who’d follow you anywhere
it’s not my idea it’s a notion out of the blue
belonging with you

i’m fine on my own i like bein alone
and i’m letting my life take me anywhere
and if you think you know well, you better let go
or you’ll find that y’never get anywhere
it’s not my idea it’s a notion out of the blue
belonging with you

aw, it’s a notion born of natural motion toward you
it’s a notion born of natural motion pullin me toward you
it’s a notion baby strong as the ocean
pullin me like tide toward you
it’s not my idea it’s a notion out of the blue
belonging with you

LIFETIME SUPPLY
Amy Loftus/Pat Buchanan/Will Kimbrough

if tomorrow never comes
if we never see the sun again
this love will live on

there’s nothin that we have to do
nothin here for us to lose
this love has a life of its own

all the stars agree past the shadow of a doubt
we were meant to be this love cannot run out

we got a lifetime supply of everything we’ll ever need
we got a lifetime supply of the things you cannot see
can’t tell you why won’t even try lifetime supply

deeper than the ocean floor
and still there is so much more
that this love holds in store

all the stars agree as the clouds roll away
we were meant to be together every day

we got enough to last all day all night

anything that came before
all the times we asked why and what for
doesn’t matter anymore

“I once said I wish i was a fisherman, meaning I wish i didn’t have the kind of mind that makes me want to perform in public, whatever, make records, make films, always be working...I wish i was satisfied to just be peaceful...I thought a fisherman was so easy, you just get your breakfast out of the water, you eat it and you go to bed. It’s a simple life. I have a sort of longing for that.”
-John Lennon, on Dick Cavett, 1971

FISHERMAN (for John Lennon)
Amy Loftus

i set out to build a dollhouse that i could live in
but they said to bury gifts been given is a mortal sin

i wish i was a fisherman i wish i was a fisherman
i wish i was a fisherman walking home

i set out to be a mommy i looked for my husband
but the only one to stick around was this stage where i stand

i wish i was a fisherman i wish i was a fisherman
i wish i was a fisherman walking home

it’s so bizarre to drive so far to love to stand and sing
more than anything

i set out toward the Dakota beneath a weeping sky
i felt a piece of outer space stop to explain why

i wish i was a fisherman i wish i was a fisherman
i wish i was a fisherman walking home
i wish you were still here man walking home
i wish you were still here man walking home

Amy Loftus/Will Kimbrough

oh america oh america world’s youngest daughter

oh america oh america they say the devil bought her

oh america oh america reds blues and whites
